The
Society has now been running for 42
years and still
has a strong membership. Our web site currently going through more
changes. Key advents of last year: 2008 2008 - GB3ZX - On Butts Brow, goes live gives and provides excellent 70cm coverage to the East Sussex area. Coverage Map and locator: http://www.ukrepeater.net/repeaters/gb3zx.htm 2008 - D Star is launched and several local repeaters have gone live. A number of local radio amateurs have already purchased equipment for this new (amazing) mode of communication that’s able to provide clear audio on a signal with no reading on the S-meter. Its early days and many of the first time users are experimenting, so I will publish a new D-Star section on the website to facilitate and report on D-star. 2008 - GPS D-Star rigs have built in GPS so it's not only possible get a location fix its also possible to track the user. The GPS can be switched off, so the tracking is optional! http://www.oaprs.net 2008 - Seahaven Amateurs A new and 'very' active local group has formed. The members meet up for field events, such as the last even at Firl Becon and experiment with all modes of communications. This is a friendly group with a wide range of interests within amateur radio.
